Gerald, of Wakefield
Tanya Shadrick, author of The Cure for Sleep, is not just a remarkable writer. She is also impressive for how she has built up a community around her own writing. Each month she offers a theme connected with her memoir, inviting writers to contribute their own piece of writing. Her generosity in commenting on all contributions, encouraging writers at any stage of their development, is exceptional.
I’ve been on the verge of contributing on a few occasions, but it took until this month for me to get my act together. How could I not? The theme of Mentors pointed me immediately in the direction of the teacher who did most to show me the way to Classics, with its rich potential to understand what it means to be human. I duly wrote about Gerald, of Wakefield. Tanya has kindly included my piece in her archive of contributions.
